About this Performance
This Afrofuturistic vision board workshop for teens provides a safe and creative space for young people to express their dreams and visions of the future by making a mixed media collage. The workshop is led by designer/cultural producer WRDÖ and artist Jessi Jumanji, who write, “Art has always been the primary form of expression for Black people. From writings on pyramid walls to influencing culture around the world, we have been at the nucleus of art practice since ancient times. That is why it is not surprising that Afrocentric art and the application of artistic techniques were at the forefront of some of the most impactful periods of Radical Black History in the United States.” Part of the Power to the People festival, the Radical Black Futurism Workshop opens up new creative pathways to young people — allowing them to conjure a vision of themselves and the world they wish to see through art.

Power to the People is presented in collaboration with the California African American Museum
