About this Performance
Both a live event and laser light installation, Transition brings artist Nicole Miller together with musicians Lady Jess and Kyshona Armstrong to explore the synthesis of color, shape, and language. The trio aims to transform the representational into a powerful and affecting abstraction. Inspired both by Wassily Kandinsky’s artist book Sounds and her connections with the African American spiritual tradition, Miller's work seeks to bring to life the ecstatic aesthetic of the Weimar period through contemporary eyes. Remaining after the performance, the laser projection continues to animate the space in abstract shapes and colors.
This performance is free and open to all February 8 concert ticket holders.

The Weimar Republic
Germany 1918–1933
In the 1920s, Germany saw a remarkable cultural renaissance prior to the rise of Nazism. Intellectualism and modernism took root in the chaotic social and economic climate between world wars. The arts and sciences burst with imagination, queer identities were brought to the forefront, and the lines between high and low art were erased. Join in a wide-ranging look at this fascinating, turbulent time.
