About this Performance
Famous for the depth of his interpretations, Yefim Bronfman showcases his seemingly infinite range on the piano with Esa-Pekka Salonen’s self-proclaimed “capricious and dream-like” Sisar and Prokofiev’s “Stalingrad” Sonata, described as “an explosive burst of rock 'n' roll with a chromatic edge” (The New York Times).
Bronfman also strides though the Romantic era, highlighting Schubert and Chopin’s “intense colors without a trace of showiness” (The Washington Post) and performing Robert Schumann’s Faschingsschwank aus Wien. Both a tongue-twister and finger-twister, this piece translates to “Carnival Jest from Vienna,” mimicking the festive energy of Mardi Gras-like dances, drama, and masquerades.
