About this Artist
Tiffany Rice joined the administrative team at the Conservatory Lab Charter School, located in Dorchester, MA, as the Director of El Sistema in July 2020. Prior to her start there, she had extensive experience as a string music educator of students of all ages and levels. At the Winsor School in Boston, MA, an independent girls’ school, Rice taught beginning and intermediate string classes and chamber music, and she built the middle school and high school orchestra programs. At the Ashley Hall School in Charleston, SC, another independent girls’ school, Rice established, coordinated, and taught in the school’s string program, in which all Kindergarten students learned the violin as part of the curriculum. She taught private violin lessons, group violin classes for beginning, intermediate, and advanced players, and middle school string orchestra. Rice has also served as a violin faculty member for intensive summer programs, including the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute from 2012-2015 and 2020, and she is also a violin faculty member for the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s YOLA National Festival Chamber Orchestra. Rice studied violin pedagogy with Mimi Zweig and Brenda Brenner at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and she was a violin faculty member for the IU String Academy from 2002-2005. In addition to teaching, Rice has performed with the Calliope and Apollo Ensembles in Boston, as well as several orchestras and chamber ensembles in southeastern United States. Rice is thrilled to have the opportunity to present a session as a part of this year’s YOLA Symposium at Home!
