YOO Hong has shown the unlimited potential of the daegeum, the traditional Korean bamboo flute with its characteristic buzzing sound produced by a resonating bamboo membrane. He has opened a new horizon for music in Europe and Asia with Korean traditional music and modern world music. Since 2010, he has worked as a daegeum soloist and a member of the AsianArt Ensemble, the Ensemble Extrakte, and the Duo Momentum in Berlin, Germany, one of the centers of European contemporary music. In particular, the AsianArt Ensemble has introduced a new spirit into the European contemporary music scene and won the German Record Award for Contemporary Music in 2012. YOO Hong has also been active as a soloist in Europe and Asia with performances of excellent musicality and great charisma, expanding his repertoire of music by embracing Korean traditional music, contemporary music, and improvisation. Recently, he founded Aufwind, Seoul, a creative arts ensemble composed of traditional Korean instruments and focused on the creation of new Korean contemporary arts. Additionally, he serves as the artistic director for the Korea Improvisation Music Festival and the Music Academy for Tomorrow, Seoul. In 2018, he won the Saya Gugak Awards from the Saya Cultural Foundation, as his creative and avant-garde activities were recognized.
