About this Artist

David Brown is a 2021/2022 fellow in the LA Phil Composer Fellowship Program. David is 18 years old and is a senior at Crescenta Valley High School. He has been composing since he started playing piano in the first grade but started taking it more seriously as he progressed through middle and high school. David began playing the viola in the fourth grade, which has remained his main instrument, but he continues to learn new instruments, including percussion, electric violin, ukulele, and more. David is also an avid whistler and participated in the 2021 Global Whistling Championship. He has played viola in honor groups such as Southern California Band and Orchestra Association Honor Groups, Glendale Youth Orchestra, and California All-State. David also plays in his school’s symphony orchestra, marching band, and pit orchestra for musicals. Outside of music, David enjoys backpacking, as well as playing chess.
