DANIEL HARDING is the Music Director of the Orchestre de Paris and Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. He was honored with the lifetime title of Conductor Laureate of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. He is a regular visitor to the Wiener Philharmoniker, Staatskapelle Dresden (orchestras which he has conducted at the Salzburg Festival), Royal Concertgebouw, Berliner Philharmoniker, Bayerischer Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester, Leipzig Gewandhaus, and the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala. Other guest-conducting engagements have included the Münchner Philharmoniker, Orchestre National de Lyon, Oslo Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Santa Cecilia Orchestra of Rome, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Rotterdam Philharmonic, HR Sinfonie Orchester Frankfurt, and the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées. Among the American orchestras with whom he has performed are the New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Chicago Symphony Orchestra. 

In 2005, he opened the season at La Scala, Milan, conducting a new production of Idomeneo, and has since returned for major productions each season including Falstaff, which opened La Scala’s program of Verdi celebrations in 2013. His operatic experience also includes The Turn of the Screw and Wozzeck at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and Ariadne auf Naxos, Don Giovanni, and Le nozze di Figaro at the Salzburg Festival with the Wiener Philharmoniker, along with many appearances at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. 

Daniel Harding’s extensive discography includes Mahler’s Symphony No. 10 with the Wiener Philharmoniker, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Mahler’s Symphony No. 6, Schumann’s Faustszenen with the Bayerischer Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester, and Billy Budd with the London Symphony Orchestra (winner of a Grammy Award for best opera recording). A regular collaborator with harmonia mundi, he has recently released recordings of Mahler’s Symphony No. 9 and a disc including Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique and Rameau’s Hippolyte et Aricie suite with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, both receiving great critical acclaim. 

In 2002, he was awarded the title of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government and in 2017 nominated to the position of Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
