About this Artist
Composer, pianist, and hornist Benjamin Beckman, age 17, is a high school senior at the Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles, California. Ben’s music has notably been performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, Frost School of Music Ensemble Ibis, and Triton Brass in venues such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Koussevitzky Music Shed and Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood, UCLA’s Schoenberg Hall, and University of Miami’s Clark Recital Hall. Ben is a 2017 YoungArts Winner, has won the Ensemble Ibis International High School Competition, received an honorable mention from the American Composer’s Forum Nextnotes Competition, and was a finalist in the 2016 ASCAP Morton Gould competition. As a 2017-2018 LA Phil Composition Fellow, his orchestral work ‘ascendance, descendance’ was premiered on two ‘Toyota Symphonies for Youth’ concerts. Ben’s most recent orchestral composition ‘and the wind, and the waves…’, the first ever student-composed piece to be performed by the BUTI Young Artist Orchestra, was selected to be premiered and conducted by Ken-David Masur at the 2018 Tanglewood on Parade concert series. Ben is an ASCAP composer and is self-published under his company BlueCirlce Press. When not playing or writing music, Ben enjoys running cross country and spending time with friends and family.
