Tenor Andrew Staples (Florestan) stands out as a versatile artist of our era. He combines a busy schedule as an opera and concert singer with a career as a film and stage director and photographer. To all his creative output, Andrew brings a collaborative approach and a passion to tell better stories that build connections between artists and audiences.
As a distinguished tenor, he has collaborated with conductors such as Simon Rattle, Daniel Harding, Emmanuelle Haïm, Elim Chan, Gustavo Dudamel, Daniel Barenboim, the late Andrew Davis, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and with such renowned orchestras as the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, London Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
Staples made his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, with Fidelio (Jaquino), returning for Capriccio (Flamand), Die Zauberflöte (Tamino), Katya Kabanova (Tichon), and Salome (Narraboth). Last year, he made his debut at the Teatro La Fenice with the title role in Britten’s Peter Grimes and his Berliner Staatsoper debut with the title role in Mozart’s Idomeneo. Staples has sung at the Metropolitan Opera, the National Theatre in Prague, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Salzburger Festspiele, Hamburg Staatsoper, Theater an der Wien, the Lucerne Festival, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
In the 2023/24 season, Staples appears with the Orchestre de Paris, Gürzenich Orchester, San Francisco Symphony, Munich Philharmonic, Stavanger Symphony, and Valencia Orchestra. In the spring of 2024, he tours some of Europe’s most prestigious venues with Les Siècles, conducted by Francois-Xavier Roth, for performances and a recording of Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde. He also appears in concert in Mozart’s Idomeneo (title role) with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Simon Rattle, Beethoven’s Fidelio (Florestan) with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel, and Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos (Bacchus) with the Budapest Festival Orchestra and Iván Fischer.
