About this Artist
Alexander Hurvitz has been a fellow in the LA Phil Composer Fellowship Program since 2019. Currently a 17-year-old jazz piano student at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, he’s the youngest winner of the 2018 ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers Awards, the highest scoring pre-college award recipient of the 2017 ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Competition, a recipient of the Charlotte V. Bergen Scholarship, and six-time winner of the Music Teacher’s Association of California Composers Today State Contest. He has personally debuted his own musical scores in seven U.S. National Yamaha Junior Original Concerts (2011–18) and was U.S. representative at the 45thYamaha International Junior Original Concert in Tokyo, Japan. Alexander began taking piano and violin lessons at age four, and composition at age six. Fluent in Chinese, he has also studied Mandarin at The Chinese School of San Marino.
