Anna Meadors

Composer and saxophonist Anna Meadors is one of the founding members of Baltimore-based ensemble Three Red Crowns; working with composer and bassist John Paul Carillo, the ensemble (amplified string quartet, sax, bass, drums, voice) plays their original compositions. She has performed her music at Baltimore's NOVO Festival, Artscape 2011 and 2012, and at New Music Greensboro 2013 and 2014. She is also lead soloist in the jazz-rock trio Joy on Fire, which tours actively along the East Coast and will be the ensemble-in-residence at the Winery at St. George's in Peekskill, NY in June 2015.

Anna recently completed Manifesto on the Ledge, a chamber opera commissioned by Rhymes With Opera, which will be premiered in May 2015 in New York City. Her music has been performed by Red Clay Saxophone Quartet, UNCG's new music ensemble Present~Continuous, Isaura String Quartet and by members of Fifth House Ensemble at the Fresh Inc Festival in June 2014. Commissioned by Greensboro Opera, Alien Invasion! was performed in a collaboration with UNCG's Opera Department for their outreach program “Opera at the Carolina” in February 2015. Upcoming projects include recording her piece World Systems at Mobtown Studios in Baltimore for Joy on Fire's second album, and composing a piece for So Percussion's Summer Institute at Princeton University, which she will attend in July 2015. She graduated from the Peabody Conservatory in 2011 with a Bachelor of Music, where she studied saxophone with Gary Louie and composition with David Smooke. Anna is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Composition at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she studies composition with Mark Engebretson, Alejandro Rutty and Steven Bryant.
