    Noon to Midnight: Field Recordings

    Saturday, November 16, 2024, 12 p.m.-12 a.m.

LOS ANGELES (September 24, 2024) — The Los Angeles Philharmonic announces new details about Noon to Midnight: Field Recordings, a 12-hour festival featuring live performances and art installations activating every corner of the Walt Disney Concert Hall campus on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from noon to midnight. This edition of the LA Phil’s beloved new-music marathon explores the intersections of art, technology and nature through the theme of field recordings.

Curated by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Ellen Reid, Noon to Midnight features the work of visionary composers performed by a host of Los Angeles-based ensembles and solo artists. In her statement on the festival, Reid said, “The works can be revelatory, challenging, mournful, joyful and meditative. Various perspectives converge in a dynamic conversation throughout the day, exploring how curious, creative humans use sound to carve their own unique paths through physical and emotional landscapes. Noon to Midnight is a celebration of creativity in Los Angeles and an invitation to listen deeply to the world around us.”

The festival features more than 35 composers, 14 of whomincluding Marc Lowenstein, Derrick Skye, Rajna Swaminathan, M.A. Tiesenga and Andrew Yeewill premiere new works. Fifteen ensembles will perform along with five conductors: Los Angeles Master Chorale Kiki & David Gindler Artistic Director Grant Gershon, Joseph Pereira, Derrick Skye, Dr. Tram Sparks and Molly Turner.

At the center of the program is the world premiere of Doug Aitken’s Lightscape, a groundbreaking film-based artwork accompanied by live performances from the Los Angeles Master Chorale and the LA Phil New Music Group. For more information about this program, see the press release here.  Please note, this portion of Noon to Midnight is a separate ticketed event.
