California Festival is a two-week, statewide festival of new music from around the world. The festival at Walt Disney Concert Hall features several programs led by Gustavo Dudamel, highlighted by the return of Canto en resistencia as well as world premieres by Miguel Farías and Gabriela Ortiz. Other programs include an organ recital by James McVinnie, a Green Umbrella concert of new music by California composers conducted by Vimbayi Kaziboni, and a new project from cellist Alisa Weilerstein.

Now in its third season, the Pan-American Music Initiative grew out of Gustavo Dudamel’s vision to build bridges of understanding between artists and audiences across the Americas. Curated by Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz, the initiative features themes of Latina feminism and art as cultural protest in concerts that include world premiere commissions from a number of composers, collaborators, and performances of music by Ortiz, Miguel Farías, Tania León, Astor Piazzolla, and more.

From giving shape to Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Judith and Thomas L. Beckmen YOLA Center at Inglewood to set designs on major opera productions, architect Frank Gehry has a long history with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The 2023/24 season honors this beloved member of the LA Phil family, including the opening night Gala, a collaborative staging of Das Rheingold, and more exhibits and commissions to be announced.
