Beats on a Global Scale

The majesty of flamenco, Marisa Monte’s pop and samba rhythms and sounds, Prateek Kuhad’s Indian folk songs of love and desire, and a search for joy with Japanese Breakfast comprise four nights of all-embracing melodies from our partners at KCRW.

Plus, the unmistakable vocals of Melody Gardot, Natalie Merchant, Silvana Estrada, and Cécile McLorin Salvant meet the keyboard wizardry of Herbie Hancock, Brad Mehldau, and Jamie Cullum.

California Festival
A Celebration of New Music

Co-creators San Diego Symphony Music Director Rafael Payare, San Francisco Symphony Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen, and LA Phil Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel

California Festival is a two-week, statewide festival of new music from around the world. The festival at Walt Disney Concert Hall features several programs led by Gustavo Dudamel, highlighted by the return of Canto en resistencia as well as world premieres by Miguel Farías and Gabriela Ortiz. Other programs include an organ recital by James McVinnie, a Green Umbrella concert of new music by California composers conducted by Vimbayi Kaziboni, and a new project from cellist Alisa Weilerstein.

Pan-American Music Initiative
Music Across Borders

Now in its third season, the Pan-American Music Initiative grew out of Gustavo Dudamel’s vision to build bridges of understanding between artists and audiences across the Americas. Curated by Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz, the initiative features themes of Latina feminism and art as cultural protest in concerts that include world premiere commissions from a number of composers, collaborators, and performances of music by Ortiz, Miguel Farías, Tania León, Astor Piazzolla, and more.

Holidays at the Hall

Celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with Deck the Hall special concerts. Enjoy an a cappella spin on the classics from Chanticleer, a sing-along for the whole family, the beloved Home Alone live to picture, swingin’ Latin jazz with Arturo Sandoval, and the ultimate New Year’s party with Pink Martini.

John Williams Spotlight

NOV 2-3, 2023; FEB 2-4, MAR 15, MAY 18-19, 2024

Hear the iconic scores of John Williams all year round! Experience Superman, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and Home Alone performed live to picture, plus music from Harry Potter and a salute to Hollywood.

Celebrating Frank Gehry

From giving shape to Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Judith and Thomas L. Beckmen YOLA Center at Inglewood to set designs on major opera productions, architect Frank Gehry has a long history with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The 2023/24 season honors this beloved member of the LA Phil family, including the opening night Gala, a collaborative staging of Das Rheingold, and more exhibits and commissions to be announced.
