    Assistant Conductor Yasuo Shinozaki leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic on Tuesday, September 10 and guest conductor Asher Fisch makes his Hollywood Bowl debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic on Thursday, September 12. Mezzo-soprano Susan Graham also makes her Hollywood Bowl debut as soloist for Thursday night's concert.

    On September 10, Yasuo Shinozaki opens the program with Beethoven's Fidelio Overture, music from the beloved and exceptional composer's only opera. The concert also includes Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 with principal concertmaster Martin Chalifour as soloist, and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5.

    On September 12, Asher Fisch leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in Berlioz' Overture from Benvenuto Cellini. The concert also features Susan Graham as she performs Berlioz' Les nuits d'été, and a selection of French operetta excerpts. The concert ends with Paul Dukas' famed work, The Sorcerer's Apprentice.

    Tuesdays Are Better at the Bowl take place at the Patio, one hour prior to the Tuesday concerts; free to all ticket holders. The September 10 session features a Neuhaus chocolate tasting and Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf cupping.

    YASUO SHINOZAKI is currently Assistant Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Shinozaki regularly leads the Philharmonic in its community concert series and in the Symphonies for Youth programs. In February of this year, Shinozaki made his subscription series debut appearance with the orchestra in three all-Beethoven concerts. Continuing to work in a wide range of repertoire with orchestras throughout Japan including the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra and Osaka Symphony Orchestra, Shinozaki has conducted the Helsinki Philharmonic as well as the Turku Philharmonic. Shinozaki made his opera debut in 1993 with The Marriage of Figaro in Tokyo and has since conducted at several opera houses in Japan. Shinozaki completed his conducting studies at the Vienna Musikhochschule with Leopold Hager and has also worked with Seiji Ozawa and Bernard Haitink at Tanglewood. He makde his debut at the Hollywood Bowl in July.

    MARTIN CHALIFOUR began his tenure as Principal Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic with the 1995/96 season. Before coming to Los Angeles, Chalifour joined The Cleveland Orchestra in 1990 as Associate Concertmaster and later held the position of Acting Concertmaster for two seasons. Prior to that, he served as Associate Concertmaster and Acting Concertmaster of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Chalifour appears frequently as a soloist and in recital, and he has toured with chamber ensembles throughout North America and Europe. He regularly performs in a number of summer music festivals including San Diego's Mainly Mozart Festival and Florida's Sarasota Music Festival. Born in Montreal, Canada, Chalifour graduated at the age of 18 with a unanimous First Prize from the Montreal Conservatory, and is a graduate of The Curtis Institute of Music. Chalifour last appeared as soloist at the Bowl in 2001.

    A native of Jerusalem, conductor ASHER FISCH is currently Music Director of the New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv. Until 2000, he was Music Director of the Vienna Volksoper, and he has conducted frequently at the Vienna Staatsoper, including Parsifal, Tosca, and Eugene Onegin, as well as a Mozart cycle. In 1995, he made his American debut at the Los Angeles Opera with Die Fliegende Holländer. He has since conducted Madama Butterfly and Verdi's Macbeth with the Chicago Lyric Opera. In 2000, he made his highly acclaimed Metropolitan Opera debut in The Merry Widow and later that season conducted Katya Kabanova at the Houston Grand Opera. Fisch conducts regularly with the Munich Philharmonic, the Mozarteum Orchestra at the Salzburg Festival, the Israel Philharmonic, the Melbourne Symphony, and the Detroit Symphony. In 2004-2005, he conducts a new Ring Cycle in Adelaide, Australia. Fisch makes his Bowl debut with this concert.

    Acclaimed mezzo-soprano SUSAN GRAHAM returned to the Metropolitan Opera last fall on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of her debut to perform in Mozart's Idomeneo. She also appeared with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at their opening concert celebrating Seiji Ozawa's final season. She performed in recital in February and March 2002 throughout Europe with pianist Malcolm Martineau. Also this spring, Graham sang Idomeneo at the Paris Garnier and Berlioz' La Damnation de Faust in Brussels. Over the past few seasons, she starred in the world premieres of Jake Heggie's Dead Man Walking at San Francisco Opera and John Harbison's Great Gatsby at the Metropolitan Opera. She records frequently for the Erato label and is currently heard on its recordings of Dead Man Walking and a solo disc of French turn-of-the-last-century operetta. Born in New Mexico, she won the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions and has received the Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters from the French government. She is making her Hollywood Bowl debut with this appearance.
